Gehrman L. Rakosky

Gehrman "Jim" L. Rakosky, 90, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at a Topeka hospital.
He was born September 25, 1913 in Manistee, Michigan, the son of Steven and Mary Patulski Rakosky.

Mr. Rakosky graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1930. He lived in Muskegon, Michigan for 30 years and then in Fort Smith, Arkansas for 25 years. He moved to Topeka in 1987. He was a consultant for the Air Force and helped manufacture equipment during World War II. He was a supervisor for Whirlpool Corporation for over 50 years and retired in 1973.

Mr. Rakosky was an avid sportsman, especially in bowling, baseball and golf. He was active as a coach for middle school and was a mentor and teacher for Jr. Achievement. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus and Whirlpool Management Club. He loved gardening, animals and woodworking.

He married Viola Como on September 26, 1937 in Muskegon, Michigan. She survives.

Other survivors include one son Gerald "Jerry" and his wife Carol Ann Rakosky of Edmond, Oklahoma
One daughter Darleen Blevins of Topeka, Kansas
Grandchildren, Kelly Lee, Michelle Pierce, Jerry Rakosky, Krista Blevins, Shane Rakosky, David Rakosky and Ashley Rakosky
Four Great-Grandchildren; Samantha, Garrett, Noah and Carter.
One brother Lavern Rakosky and one sister, Alice Cathcart, both of Michigan

He was preceded in death by a daughter Bobbie Sue Rakosky.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2004. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Rakosky will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, where a rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. followed by a time of visitation from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 N.W. Rochester Road, Topeka, KS 66617 or to
Ensley Botanical Gardens, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel, 2843 S.E. Minnesota Avenue, Topeka, 66605.
