Genevieve Jean Rowley, 96, Topeka, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014.
She was born August 30, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Michalena (Libner) Sadowksi. Jean graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1936. She also attended Moody Bible Institute and served at the Pacific Garden Mission.
On May 23, 1970, she married Edward Oscar Rowley in Bloomington, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1987. She was also preceded in death by eight siblings and one great-grandchild.
Genevieve was employed by the Illinois Agricultural Association, Farm Supply, both in Chicago and Bloomington for 25 years, retiring in 1977.
Jean was a member of Belmont Heights Evangelical Free Church where she taught Sunday school, Jr. Church and was also the Sunday school superintendent. In 1960 she moved to Bloomington, Illinois where she became a charter member of Evangelical Free Church of Bloomington.
In 1992, she moved to Topeka to be with her family. She was a charter member of Grace Bible Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Sarita (John) Batson; two granddaughters, Veronica (Joel) Culberson and Holly (Brian) Swim and eight great-grandchildren, all of Topeka.
Jean enjoyed camping and traveling in her younger years and later on was in charge of On The Road Again through Grace Bible Church. She loved jigsaw puzzles, theatrical drama and most of all her family.
Her legacy is one of loving her Lord Jesus Christ, sharing His joy, and memorizing His word.
A funeral ceremony will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel with visitation held one hour prior to services. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held in Elmwood Park Cemetery, Elmwood Park, IL on Monday.
