George A. Moore, 81, of Topeka, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at his residence. He was born on May 20, 1923 at Amistad, NM, the son of John and Lizzie Wolford Moore. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was employed by the Topeka Capital Journal for 38 years before retiring in February of 1988. He was an active member and volunteer of Capital Post No. 1 of the American Legion and the FOE for many years. He married Betty Hashman on May 20, 1950 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include five sons, Gregory Moore of Denver, CO., Brian Moore and Darrell Moore of Wichita, KS., Gary Moore and Patrick Moore of Topeka, seven grandchildren, Scott, Ryan, Brittany, Sarah, Christopher, Alyson and Emily. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelsey in November of 1992. Other survivors include one brother, John Moore of Los Angeles, CA., and one sister, LouEtta McClain of Dallas, TX. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Mr. Moore will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Cremation will follow services. Private inurnment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery.
