George W. Atchison, Jr., 83, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at a local care center.
George was born December 7, 1933, in Reading, the son of George and Lula (Carr) Atchison. He graduated from Eskridge High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957.
He was employed as a Machinist in the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway locomotive shop for over 35 years, retiring in 1993.
George was married 31 years to Eva Morales (1954). Survivors include sons, Steve Atchison, Topeka, Ed Atchison (Penny), Topeka; daughter, Debra Coyle, Albany, GA; grandchildren Arron Atchison, Lawrence, Aubree May (James), Lenexa, Shelton Petty III (MaLynn), Leesburg, GA, Maeghan Coyle, Panama City Beach, FL; great-granddaughter Claire Petty, Leesburg, GA; and sisters, Neita Bahnmaier (Joe), Lawrence, Nadine Latham (Pete), Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Walter Atchison.
Mr. Atchison was a member of American Legion, VFW.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Private family inurnment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
