George D. Wagstaff, age 88, of Tecumseh, passed away at his farm Monday May 11, 2009.
George was born on the Wagstaff farm on September 20, 1920. He grew up in the Tecumseh area. George served in the U.S. Marines from 1942 to 1946. He was stationed in Fort Pendleton, California, China, and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged as a SSG.
He received his Bachelor's and Juris Doctorate Degrees from Washburn University. George was City Attorney for the City of Topeka, Attorney for the State Board of Tax Appeals for the State of Kansas, and was in private practice for a number of years. He enjoyed raising Angus Cattle and growing vegetables in his spacious and beautiful garden.
George was extremely proud of his family. He was very grateful to have a son who was always there for him.
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Fern, his son, Stan (Judy) of Topeka, two grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Carter and Justin (Tiffany), both of Topeka, two great-grandchildren; Jack and Ben Carter, both of Topeka, and a sister, Kay Pooley of Oklahoma City, OK.
At George's request, cremation will take place and a private ceremony and inurnment at Zion Cemetery in Tecumseh will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in George's memory may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
As George always said,"It's been a great ride!"
