George E. Birch, 72, of Topeka, went to be with The Lord on Monday, August 11, 2014. He was born July 16, 1942 in Topeka, KS the son of Lester and Carolyn Brewer Birch.
He spent most of his life in Topeka. George was employed by Ray Smalley, Ralph Frakes, Hamms and several construction companies. He is a member of Fellowship of Faith Church and several other fraternal organizations.
George married Bernice St. Clair. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Sylvia Densley of Pennsauken, NJ, Georgiana Leslie Birch of Virginia, Rebecca Jean Ambam of Topeka, Orad Birch of Topeka, Sabrina "Sweet" Birch of Wichita, Georgia Birch of Topeka, Lester Earl "Boo" Birch of Topeka, a host of step-children, fifteen grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, his siblings, Ella Marie James of Berkley, CA, William Mac Himes of San Leandro, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and friends. George was preceded in death by one son, Duane Searles and his siblings, James Benton, Ann Himes and Carolyn "Candy" Birch.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where the family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Cremation will follow and private inurnment will take place at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family.
