George E. Robbins, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born on November 9, 1922 in Duke, MO, the son of Thomas and Maudie Robbins. He was an Army veteran. George married Dorothy Mae Taylor on June 7, 1946 in Rolla, MO. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2004. They moved to Lawrence and later made their home in Topeka. He was employed as a carpenter by A.H. Pashman Construction for 33 years before retiring. Survivors include one daughter, Sandy D. Emery of Topeka; two sons, Larry Robbins of East Lyme, Conn., and Robert E. Robbins of Topeka; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private interment will take place in Topeka Cemetery. Mr. Robbins will lie in state after Noon Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Kansas Chapter, 300 North Main St., Suite 300, Wichita, KS 67202.
