George A. Irwin, 74, Topeka, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at a local hospital.
George was born April 2, 1942 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Rich and Lumina Irwin. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S. S. Parricutin.
He was the owner of Hair Benders Schools & Salons, and a hairdresser for 53 years.
George married Ellen Stovall on June 15, 1963 in Topeka. His wife of 53 years survives. Other survivors include their children, Kelly (Steve) Patton, San Antonio, TX, Chad Irwin, Topeka, Dea (David),grandson, Kyzer Polzin, Haslet, TX; brother, Dick (Elaine) Irwin, Ft. Collins, CO; mother-in-law, Eleanor Jewell and many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Drew and Mission Patton; and father-in-law, Benny Jewell.
The family will receive friends and family from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Cremation is planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Chapter, March of Dimes.
