George L. Shields, 71, of Topeka, died Monday, August 19, 2013. He was born August 13, 1942 at Topeka, the son of George and Ruth Shields-Thomas.
George was raised in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army and held the rank of E-4. George married Margaret Appelhanz on July 31, 1981 in Oklahoma.
George is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, John Barba and Donald Barba (Mary); six grandkids, and five great-grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Shields.
George was the owner of Executive Limousine Service in Topeka for many years. He enjoyed watching football, KU Basketball, and car racing.
Per his wishes, George will be cremated. A visitation to celebrate his life will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Monday, August 26th at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66606. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family or to a charity of the donor's choice.
