George W. Morris, 84, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011.
He was born July 20, 1927 in Topeka the son of George B. & Anna (Roche) Morris.
George was a graduate of Topeka High School in 1945.
Mr. Morris was employed by the United States Post Office, retiring in 1984. George also delivered newspapers for the Topeka Capital Journal for thirty years, having the largest delivery route in Topeka at one time.
He served in the U.S. Marines Corps from 1951-1953.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #400 and the Moose Lodge.
George married Virginia Thompson on June 5, 1947, in Topeka, she survives. Other survivors include a son, Larry (Lori) Morris, of Topeka; Four grandchildren, Ryan Morris, Michelle Morris, Kelsey Drake, and Austin Drake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marjorie (Morris) Schell.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, December 23, 2011, at Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka, KS 66604, burial will follow. Mr. Morris will lie in state after 3 p.m., Thursday, at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, 66610, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
