Gerald E. Worthington, 82, of Topeka, passed away April 22, 2013. He was born June 14, 1930 to Jesse and Ethel (Shaw) Worthington in Topeka. He married Anna Loree Goins on July 15, 1950. He served as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War.
Gerald managed Shawnee Co. Rural Water District #8 for nearly 15 years and was the owner/operator of Worthington Excavating in Topeka until 2000 when he retired. He currently was filling his time after retirement by driving a school bus for Shawnee Heights USD 450. He was a former Post Commander of American Legion Post 1 in Topeka and an active member of the post for over 35 years.
Gerald is survived by his wife of the home; his children, Kathy McIver (Scott) of Keller, TX, Gerri Dawson (Doug) of St. Louis, MO, and Bill Worthington (Carolyn) of Silver Lake, KS; grandchildren, Miles McIver, Leslie McIver, Billy Worthington and Amie Worthington; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Logan Worthington; and his sister, Virginia Fritz (Galen) of Houston, TX.
A memorial service will be held at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11:00AM. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Ozawkie Cemetery.
