Gerald E. Kipers, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born July 8, 1931 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of John G. and Florence M. (Weeks) Kipers.
Gerald graduated from Augusta High School. He earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music Education from Wichita State University. He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War, stationed in Baumholder, Germany. He was employed as a Music Teacher by Hazelton, Macksville, Inman, Claflin and Kiowa public schools in Kansas and later Shawnee Heights USD 450 for 22 years before retiring in 1989. Known as a tough perfectionist, he helped many students become professional musicians.
Gerald was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Gerald married Betty L. Dillon on February 12, 1953 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives. Other survivors include children, Gregg (Deann) Kipers of Lawrence, Kansas, Kim Kipers of Tecumseh, two grandchildren, Courtney and Ryan, one great-granddaughter, Mariah and his furry friend, Java.
Gerald was preceded in death by his two brothers, John Kipers, Jr. and Virgil Kipers.
A Celebration of Gerald’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Highland Park United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Private inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
