Gerald L. Hunter, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at his home. He was born January 14, 1931 in Westphalia, KS, the son of Arthur Lee and Martha Marie (Highley) Hunter.
Gerald graduated from Garnet High School in 1948. He was a Navy Veteran during the Korean War. He moved to Topeka in 1948 and was employed by Otis Elevator for 37 ½ years before retiring in 1993.
Gerald married Lola Mae Diehl on June 10, 1950 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their three children, Keith (Debbie) Hunter of Topeka, Rick (Toni) Hunter of Baldwin City, KS and Jeff Hunter of Topeka, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one sister, Opal Bradley of Waverly, KS and one brother, Clayton Hunter of Hoyt, KS. Gerald was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Godsey and Beulah Markley.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Cremation will follow the service and private inurnment will take place in Topeka Cemetery at a later date.
