Gerald L. Rickel

Gerald "Gary" Rickel, 74, of Topeka passed away on November 3, 2017. Born August 10, 1943, in Holton, KS, he was the son of Milton and Zella (Hewitt) Rickel.
He was a graduate of Topeka High School, class of 1961.
Gary served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, spending the majority of his enlistment in Vietnam.
He spent his final 28 working years at Stormont Vail as an electrician.
Gary married Peggy (Sweigart) in 1967. Together they had two sons. She preceded him in death. He joined the new love of his life, Diane Dukat, in 2008.
He enjoyed camping, riding his CanAm, fishing, square dancing, Jayhawk basketball and NASCAR. Gary loved dogs and lived life to its fullest. He was always willing to help anybody.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and son, Todd Rickel.
He is survived by his fiancée, Diane and son, David (Alice) Rickel.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, 1234 Fairlawn Rd Topeka, Kansas 66604. The family will greet friends for an hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St, Topeka, KS 66604.
