Geraldene "Geri" Mae (Harris) Muncy, 86, of Silver Lake, Kansas, passed away July 8, 2015. She was born at Lawrence, Kansas on December 6, 1928 to Jerry and Hazel (Creevan) Harris. Geri was raised on a dairy farm south of Eudora, Kansas and graduated from Eudora High School. She received her degree as a registered nurse from Bethany School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kansas.
She married Donald J. Muncy of Lone Jack, Missouri on May 28, 1949 at the dairy farm in Eudora. She said it was the hottest day of the year in a farm house with no air conditioning. Geri nursed senior citizens in a variety of institutions in Douglas County, Kansas including Presbyterian Manor, Colonial Manor, and Brandon Woods, as well as Orchard Lane Nursing Home in Baldwin City, Kansas. She was the nurse at Baker University for several years.
Geri enjoyed reading. Her favorite genres included historical romances and mysteries (favorite authors were Agatha Christie and Georgette Heyer). She also enjoyed sewing and often crafted a variety of quilted or flannel bears and bed quilts for her family members and friends. One of her favorite quilts was the first she quilted with her Grandfather Harris.
Geri cherished her family and she is survived by her husband Donald; her children: Denise Muncy Salsbury (David) of Silver Lake, KS, Dirk Muncy (Debra) of Lawrence, KS, Dorin Muncy (Donna) of Lenexa, KS , Darth Muncy (Rhonda) of St. Joseph, MO, and Delaina Muncy Lenard (Lance) of Rossville, KS; her siblings: Gloria Harris Burns (Gary ) of Cupertino, CA and James Harris of Eudora, KS; Grandchildren: Dusty Muncy of Lawrence, KS, Tara Muncy Sawyer (Sam) of Perry, KS, Donald Salsbury (Jessie) of Gardner, KS, Darin Muncy (Amber) of St. Joseph, MO, Drew Salsbury (Andrea) of McPherson, KS, Tanisha Love of Overland Park, KS; Tashawn Newson of Lenexa, KS, Drake Muncy Pino (Amanda Scoggins) of Lawrence, KS, Keara Lenard of Rossville, KS, and Kade Lenard of Rossville, KS; Great-grandchildren: Jacob and Kyan Sawyer; Brooklyn, Declan, and Gavin Muncy; Joshua Salsbury; Jaxon, Ryker, Wyatt, and Basil Salsbury; Alexandria Stuart; and Lotyss Pino.
A memorial service will be held June 5, 2016 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Services Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at Lone Jack Cemetery, Lone Jack, Missouri following the service.
