Geraldine W. "Jerry" Hill, 95, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Lexington Park Nursing Home.
She was born May 2, 1918, in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Lee and Ruth (Lambert) Whatley. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1936.
Jerry was employed by Pelletiers in the 1960's and Meeks Office Supply in the 1970's. She showed her artistic talent by gifting paintings across the U.S. She also enjoyed singing and swimming. She was a member of the Gage Park Baptist Church and American Baptist Women's Association. Jerry's sweetness increased with age.
On May 10, 1941 she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth H. Hill, in Oskaloosa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her father, Lee Whatley, mother, Ruth Lewis, and step-father, Jack Lewis.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen J. (Bill) Hogue, Topeka and Kenya K. (Terry) Nolte, Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Julie Scheid, Jeff Brewer, Heather Welsh and Wendy Martin; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Jerry will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gage Park Baptist Church or Grace Hospice.
