Gertrude E. "Gertie" Mitchell, 90, of Topeka, formerly of Kingsland, TX, died Sunday, January 13, 2013. She was born August 30, 1922 in Topeka, the daughter of Samuel and Ida Swearingen.

Gertie attended schools in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School. Gertie married Walter Mitchell on Oct. 8th, 1952 at Topeka. She worked at Adams Business Forms and she retired as a dietary aid at Presbyterian Manor after many years.

Gertie's many hobbies included quilting, baking, ceramics, cake decorating, crocheting, gardening, and tending to her flowers.

Gertie is survived by her sons, Steve (Linda) and David (Diana); 5 grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois and Roberta; and one niece. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Walter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 17th, at West Side Christian Church, 432 SW Lindenwood in Topeka. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Topeka Cemetery.
