Gertrude Goolsby, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on December 5, 1915 in Glenlynn, VA, the daughter of William and Nannie Bailey Long. She came to Topeka in 1963. She was a homemaker. She attended Berryton Baptist Church. She married Robert E. Stowers in 1931 He preceded her in death on January 17, 1960. She married William E. Goolsby in 1963. He preceded her in death in 1975. She was also preceded in death by one son, Marvin J. Stowers and one daughter, Elizabeth Christine Miller. Survivors include five sons, Albert Stowers of Pulaski, VA, Charles Stowers of Berryton, Robert Stowers of Maple Hill, Dave Stowers of Topeka three daughters, Bernice Edds of Stamford, Neb., Lillian Erickson of Topeka and Betty Martin of Berryton, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Goolsby will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
