Gertrude Ileen Cochrane, 84, was born April 13, 1929, near McDonald, Kansas to Robert and Martha Powell. She went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2013. Gertrude attended Kansas State University where she met her future husband. She moved to Topeka after her marriage to Kenneth L. Myer in 1951 who preceded her in death in 1976. Together they had four children (Ilene, Lauren, Nancy, and Gail).
Gertrude worked for many years in the healthcare community in Topeka, including KNI, Cappers, the Topeka State Hospital and the Methodist Home. While working at the Topeka State Hospital she met and later married Fredrick (Fred) Cochrane Sr. in 1977. Fred also preceded her in death in 2002.
While married to Kenneth, they were active members in the Indian Creek Grange, and other farming community activities. During her marriage to Fred, she enjoyed volunteering as Mr. And Mrs. Claus in the local community. Gertrude's hobbies included traveling, gardening, fishing, and a wide variety of arts and crafts. She was a nature lover. Gertrude was a member of the Silver Lake Baptist Church in Silver Lake.
She is survived by her children: Ilene (Jim) McKaig, Lauren Myer, Nancy (Dan) Masters, and Gail (Tom) Jones, stepchildren, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be May 25, 2013 at 11AM at Silver Lake Baptist Church. Her ashes will be inurned at Prairie Home cemetery following the services.
