Gladys J. "Sally" Luce, 83, of Berryton, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 22, 1927 on a farm southeast of Wakarusa, the youngest of three children born to Clarence W. and Allie Neill Little. The family moved to the Highland Park area where she graduated from Highland Park High School in 1945.
Gladys was employed at the Supply Depot during WWII. She then went to work for the State of Kansas Income Tax Division and later the Topeka Day Care Association. She was an avid bowler and appeared in the Topeka Top 10 three different years. She was a member of the Berryton United Methodist Church, Clarice Chapter No. 390, O.E.S. in Wakarusa, the Capitol Post No. 1 American Legion Auxiliary and the Highland Park Alumni Association.
Gladys married Don E. Luce on July 30, 1961 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include one son; Timothy A. Luce, one daughter; Kimberly A. Luce, both of Topeka, eight grandchildren and one brother; Dean R. (Mary Ellen) Little of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her sister; Evelyn F. Adkison.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Cremation will follow the services and private inurnment will take place at a later date. Gladys will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
