Glee Marie Barngrover Reed, 73, Wakarusa, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Glee was born at the family home in Wakarusa on November 24, 1938, the daughter of Earl and Gertie (Avey) Barngrover. She graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1956 and Washburn University in 1960 with a Bachelor in Education.
She was a P.E. teacher in six school districts in northeast Kansas while raising her children and working on her Masters Degree in Special Education from Kansas State University. After her children were older, she was a Special Education teacher in the Auburn Washburn School district for 23 years, retiring in 1999.
She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka for 50 years, where she taught Sunday school, was a nursery worker, VBS teacher, and enjoyed the "Joy in the Morning Bible Study". She was a board member of Shawnee County Farm Bureau, was part of the "Bosom Buddies Cancer Support Group" and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She had been working with the ladies of Berryton Baptist Church for the past 4 years, and enjoyed coaching softball and basketball for her children and helping out in 4-H with her grandchildren. She was a person of many interests.
Glee married James Reed on July 24, 1959 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include daughter, Gina (Tim) Koch, Auburn; son, Jay (Cathy) Reed, Riverton; grandchildren, Brenna and Andrew Koch; sister, Jo Ann O'Brien, Overbrook; brother, Richard Barngrover, Carbondale; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Maurine Waetzig.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka. Burial will follow at Shawnee Center Cemetery in Wakarusa. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
