Retired Major Glen L. Nunley, 91 passed at his Topeka home surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 after a long illness. Glen was born May 2, 1918 in Monitor West Virginia to Dexter and Edna Nunley.
Glen is survived by his wife; Patricia McGuire Nunley, children; Scott Nunley, Cheryl (Ed) Spears, both of Ashland KY, Mark (Lee Ann) Patrick of Topeka, KS and Kimberly Patrick of Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by his brother Dexter Nunley of Ironton, OH; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife; Nita Nunley, and his five siblings.
Glen spent most of his adult life in Ashland, KY where he owned and operated Move-Rite Transfer and Storage. He served as Company Commander with the Second Armored Division during WWII as part of the "Hell on Wheels" march across Europe, and he continued to serve in the Kentucky Army Reserve after the war. He moved to Topeka, KS in 1975 where he worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for five years before retiring. He and Patricia spent many hours fishing and traveling the country, seeing the wonderful nature our country has to offer. His love and generosity will be missed by many.
Inurnment will take place at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 5, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 6, at the Lake Sherwood Clubhouse, 6910 SW Fountaindale Rd. Topeka. Festive attire is appreciated.
