Glenn L. Osborn

Glenn L. Osborn, 86, Topeka, was born into heaven on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.

Glenn was born April 30, 1923 in Centerville, the son of Vernon and Violet (Croan) Osborn.

At the age of 15, he received a Steel guitar from his grandfather. This led to a long career as a musician. He worked for K.I.T.E. radio in Kansas City, W.R.E.N. radio in Lawrence, and W.I.B.W. in Topeka until he was called into the Army during World War II. After a three year tour with the military, he returned to W.I.B.W. radio and television where he performed with the Dinner Bell Roundup, Dinner Hour Gang and the Pleasant Valley Gang. Glenn also played with several different C&W dance bands, including Music Makers, Rural Route 4, Shyster Mountain Gang and his own, Star Country. He also performed on a voluntary basis for nursing homes and retirement centers. He was inducted into the America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004, and received the Wheatstock III Performer of the Year award in 2006.

He owned his own television repair business, Osborn Television Antenna Service for over 25 years.

Glenn married Ann Nokes on April 19, 1947 in Welda and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. She survives of the home. Other survivors include daughters, Dala (Raul) Morales, Kaufman, TX, Lynn Gillmore, Topeka; son, Randy (Karen) Osborn, Topeka; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a brother, Gail Osborn, Topeka. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ted Osborn; and a sister, Elsie Greene.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Private family inurnment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Covenant Baptist Church, 5440 SW 37th, Topeka, Kansas 66614.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Baptist Church or Midland Hospice Care Connection, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
