Glenn M. Wilson

Glenn M. Wilson, 87, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the Midland Hospice House. He was born on June 17, 1921, in Topeka, Kansas. Glenn attended Topeka public schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1939. He married Mary Sams on August 22, 1941. Glenn joined the military in 1942 and became a Master Sergeant of the Flying Tigers. He served in World War II for three years and was stationed in China and India. Glenn and Mary returned to Topeka and later had a daughter, Susan, in 1949. They remained in Topeka for the duration of their lives. Glenn and Mary were long-time members of Central Park Christian Church. Following Mary's passing in 2003, Glenn returned to Lowman United Methodist Church where he had been baptized as a child.

Glenn was employed by Kansas Power and Light for 39 years and retired in 1984 as a Meter Superintendent. He was a member of the Arab Shrine where he enjoyed being a part of the Greeters, Scottish Rite, and the Golfer's Unit. He was also a member of the American Legion. Glenn was a member of the Shawnee Country Club for 48 years and served as a past president. He had many hobbies in his lifetime which included dancing, playing bridge, attending Civic Theater, fishing and going to Tuesday morning Men's Prayer Breakfast. Glenn's biggest passions were spending time with his family, playing with his dog, Chez, and being on the golf course with his friends.

Glenn is survived by his daughter, Susan Bisel, and her husband Ken. He is also survived by his grandson, Bret Bisel, and his wife, Shannon.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight at the Southwest Chapel from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
