Glenn Sprinkle

Glenn H. Sprinkle, Jr., 79 of Topeka, passed away Sat., Feb. 9, 2008 at his home surrounded by his children.
Glenn was born on December 15, 1928 at Pinson Fork, Kentucky, son of Glen H. Sprinkle and Katey Coley Sprinkle.  After retiring from military service he worked for the federal government for 16 years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka, KS, retiring from there in November, 1990.
Glenn entered the United States Air Force at the age of 17 and served with Occupational Forces in Japan and later in Vietnam.  During his career he was stationed in various other locations including Guam, Greenland and North Africa.  He was also stationed at Forbes Field in Topeka and in Texas for many years.  He served in the Air Force for 28 1/2 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in May, 1974.  He married Josephine M. Chapman of Topeka, on September 14, 1955.  They were married for 41 years until her death in May, 1996.
Survivors include four children:  Annalee Sobik and Karen Collins both of Topeka, KS, Suzanne Clarke of New Boston, NH, and Glenn H. Sprinkle, III, of Edmond, OK.  His grandchildren include six grandsons, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter.  His sibling survivors include sisters, Evelyn Brown, Oakwood, VA; Nina Barrow, Charleston, SC; brothers, Joe Sprinkle, Spotslvania, VA and Don Sprinkle, Petersburg, VA.
Glenn grew up in the mountains of West Virginia and Kentucky and loved telling tales about his early childhood living in those mountains.  All his life, he liked camping, boating and working with anything mechanical or electrical.  He also enjoyed visiting with his friends from the VA Hospital and his retired military friends from the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at their annual reunions.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wed., Feb. 13, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.  Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Glenn will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Tues., Feb. 12 where the family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
