Gloria L. Brown, 85, of Berryton, Kansas passed away February 20, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born in Angola, Indiana on January 3, 1931. Gloria had one brother and one sister. Her parents worked in the automotive industry.
Gloria met Robert D. Brown, from Wellington, Kansas while he was attending Tri-State University in Angola. Bob was a WWII veteran, serving in the Navy in the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After he graduated as a Chemical Engineer, Gloria and Robert married and moved to Borger, Texas as the first stop on a 60 year journey that involved over 13 moves and work in 10 states. They came to Kansas when Bob was an engineer helping build the Wolf Creek Generating Station.
Gloria and Bob were very active in community work, and they spent years creating various woodworking projects. Gloria loved to sew, and in recent years made many pillowcases for children in hospitals.
Gloria was known simply as "Mom" to many people. She had lived since 2009 on a ranch near Berryton, Kansas, where she was top hand in caring for a variety of horses.
Gloria is survived by two daughters and a son, four granddaughters, and one great granddaughter: Roberta Crawford (Bob), Barbara Bunting (Tod), Richard Brown (Sheryl), Megan, Katie, Lyndsey, Paige, Camila. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and one son, Randall.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 24th at St. David's Episcopal Church in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Heroes Among Us, 6206 NW Barry Rd, Kansas City, MO, 64154 or Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle Topeka, KA 66606.
