Grant S. Bisel, 93, Topeka, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2012. He resided at Clare Bridge of Topeka for the past 2 ½ years. The family would like to express their appreciation to everyone there for their kindness and services.
Grant was born August 29, 1918 in Wakefield, KS. He was the son of Harry W. and Bertha (Thrush) Bisel. He spent most of his life in Topeka.
Grant, along with his father and brothers, owned and operated Broadview Dairy. The dairy was later sold to Fairmont Foods. Grant was employed there for 25 years before his retirement in 1980.
He was an active member of The First Church of the Nazarene where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. While a member of The First Wesleyan Church, he served as church treasurer.
Grant was a talented handyman in many things; carpentry, welding, masonry, cooking and baking. He enjoyed the restoring of his Model A Ford.
Grant married Hazel Eloise Bass on December 28, 1939 in Topeka. She died May 7, 1976. He later married Imogene Herb on June 5, 1977 in Chanute. She died April 12, 2009. Survivors include sons, Ken (Sue) Bisel, Topeka, KS, Ron (Dee) Bisel, Lawrence, KS; daughters, Naomi (Gene) Hoppes, Vestal, NY, Barbara (Harold) Chapman, Broken Arrow, OK; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale Bisel, David Bisel, Ralph Bisel; and sisters, Eunice Kirshner, Hazel Luthie, Nadine Atwood and Bertha Mary Golden. He was also preceded in death by 4 siblings; Benison, Marvin, Alma and Goldie.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Grant will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
