Gregory L. Rhone, 59, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012 with his family at his side.
Greg was born February 2, 1953 in Emporia, the son of Dale and Judy (Luthro) Rhone. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1971.
He was employed for over 40 years at KFC, where he began as a cook and advanced to operations supervisor of the Topeka and Lawrence stores.
Greg married Nancy Sorensen on March 3, 1979 at Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their daughters, Alana and grandson, Mason, Ariane (Kenny Sowers), Alison (Reed Eisenhart), siblings, Patricia Michna, Sandy Akerstrom, Doug (Gina), Don (Janine); 15 nieces and nephews; honorary grandchildren, Jillian, Caden & Cora; brother-in-law, Terry (Andrea) Sorensen; and sister-in-law, Michele (Jim) Rutter. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tim; and father/mother-in-law, Fred and Mary Sorensen.
Greg enjoyed fishing, swimming, traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandson and best friend, Mason. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories his friends and family will never forget. He will have a place in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Greg will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
