G.J. "Shorty" Keeler, 95, of Lebanon, MO, passed away Saturday, July 28th, 2012 at his daughter's home in Topeka, KS, while under Grace Hospice care. He was born on October 21, 1916 in Norwich, NY.
Shorty began his career with Standard Oil Company (Amoco - BP) as one of the original pipe liners and ended his career as the company's executive buyer for all of Amoco. Even though his work required much relocation across the Midwest, Shorty was always actively involved in the community.
Shorty is survived by his daughter, Janet Keeler of Topeka and oldest son Clifford. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Buffum; niece, Sally Clark; grandchildren, Don Keeler, Kathy Keeler, Kim Blakley-Rea, Beth Ann Keeler, Dawn Smejkel , Crystal Keeler, Estan Keeler; great-grandchildren, David Keeler, Jessica Keeler, Michael Keeler, Tiffany Rea, Zoe Rea, Hannah Rea, Juliano Rea, Elle and Dalton Pagel. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Kathryn; sons, Brad and Max; and brother, Clifford Keeler. Shorty was later remarried to Nellis Murphy. She also preceded him in death. Shorty will be missed greatly by his family. His kind heart and positive outlook on life will help the family remember the remarkable man that he was.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1880 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66604. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St. Ste. 100 Topeka, KS 66614.
