Harold E. Shubert

Harold E. Shubert, 83, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Brewster Place in Topeka. He was born on May 18, 1926 in Phillipsburg, KS, the son of Edwin G. and Alta E. Lundry Shubert. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1944. Harold was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 6th Division, 20th Infantry, G Company in the Philippines. He moved to Topeka in April of 1953 and was employed by the KDOT for 38 years before retiring in May of 1987. He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion. Harold married Lorraine M. Jones on April 17, 1949 in Beattie, KS. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Dale E. (Caroline) Shubert of Topeka, one daughter, Alta M. (John) Jacoby of Woodland Park, CO, two granddaughters, Christine (Daniel) Negrete and Sarah Shubert both of Topeka and two great-grandsons, David and Tommy. Harold was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Kelly, Ruth Lord and one brother, Lee Shubert. Cremation has taken place. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka where military honors will be presented by a burial detail from Fort Riley, KS. Memorial contributions may be given to the National Association 6th Infantry Division c/o Mr. Thomas Price, 317 Court St. NE, Suite 203, Salem, OR 97301. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
