7. Background:He attended schools in Osborne and Russell Counties, and graduated from Paradise High
School in 1936. He was inducted into the US Army on March 24, 1941. He served in the 394th Infantry and
achieved the rank of Master Sgt. He was awarded the bronze star, the good conduct medal and the American
Defense Ribbon. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and saw action in Normandy, Northern France,
Rhineland and Central Europe. He was discharged October 8, 1945. After he was discharged, he worked as a
plumber in Natoma and Russell. He owned and operated Peake Plumbling in Russell from 1969 to 1973. He
married Helen Dodson Pfortmiller on February 11, 1949 , in Russell, she survives. He was a lifetime member of
the Russell VFW, and a member of the First Nazarene Church.
