Harry Livingston

Harry "Dean" Livingston, 84, formerly of Carbondale, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Midland Care.

He was born June 18, 1934 in Carbondale, Kansas, the son of Lemuel Leo and Ruth (McPhail) Livingston. He was a 1952 graduate of Carbondale High School where he wore number 10 as a member of the 1951 State Champion Basketball Team.

Dean owned and operated Diffley Truck Line of Topeka. He later built, owned and operated Dean's Drive-In in Carbondale, Kansas. He later owned and operated Reliable Transfer in Lawrence and Ottawa and Livingston Trucking in Bakersfield, CA. He also owned and operated the Dairy Queen #8 in Tucson, AZ.

He served on the Carbondale City Council and was a member of Moose Lodge No 555 in Topeka, Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Benson, AZ, Arizona Shuffleboard Association, and was inducted into the Arizona Shuffleboard Hall of Fame in 2018.

Dean married Jean Lillard on August 23, 1952 in Carbondale. They later divorced. Survivors include five children, Connie Livingston, Jacksonville, FL, Denise (Phil) Yonts, Topeka, Belinda Turner, Olathe, KS, Ricky (Tammy) Livingston, Rosalia, KS and Timothy Livingston, Gardner, KS; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Hug, Scranton, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Zachary Turner; a great-grandson, Corey Shepard; a twin sister, Mary "Jean" Boggs; a sister, Eva Mae Briggs; and a niece, Joyce Stallbaumer.

Dean was a dedicated fan of KU Basketball, KC Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and enjoyed betting one dollar on games. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and dice, traveling in his motor home from Kansas to Arizona every year to play shuffleboard and loved to make phone calls to family and friends.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Community United Church of Christ, 104 S. 4th Street, Carbondale. Private family inurnment will be at Scranton Cemetery, Scranton, Kansas. Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
