Harvie Charles Steinkuehler, a saint who lived for the Lord, entered into eternal sleep September 28th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. Harvie was blessed to be cared for in his family's home by his wife, daughter, and son-in-law. He was born August 23rd, 1947 in Beaver City, OK to Gilbert Carl and Irene (McWright) Steinkeuhler. Harvie married the love of his life, Deanna Lee DeSelms on March 10th, 1973. From this blessed union, three children were born. Harvie, a pillar of Christian faith, proudly lead his family to Christ's everlasting and perfect love. Because of this steadfast belief, Harvie's family looks to the hills, for they reverently believe in the promise that joy comes in the morning.
Harvie graduated from Guymon High School in 1965, continuing his education at Panhandle State University graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He proudly served his country in the Army from 1970-1976, including one tour of Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star for heroic bravery. Harvie concluded his career with an Honorary Discharge as an Army Captain. Harvie continued his career as an auditor for 35 years for the State of Kansas.
Harvie loved 'his best little bud' and was very proud of raising a family who fears the Lord. Harvie was an active member with the 1st Southern Baptist Church, declaring his profession of faith by volunteering as a leader for youth summer camps in Garden City and Dodge City, KS. He also enjoyed participating in the Lion's Club, teaching gun range shooting, and collecting coins.
Harvie was proceeded in death by his parents; daughter, Lena Kristen and sister, Sara Clydene Harris Lewis.
Harvie will be remembered as a devout husband, father, pa, mentor, and friend. He was loved by all and will be fondly recognized for his unconditional love for his family. Harvie's family believes "he should have lived forever; but since he couldn't, he gave a part of his heart to everyone; and he gave a part to me". Family left to mourn: his wife, Deanna of the home; two children, Jennifer Gould and Christopher Steinkuehler both of Topeka; grandson, Luke; step grandson, Justin (Nicole) Paulsen; great grandchildren, Logan, Isabella, Alexandria, and Emmett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Harvie's request cremation is planned. Harvie donated his body to further Parkinson's Research at KU. A Celebration of Harvie's Life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Dove Cremations and Funerals – Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66610. The family will greet friends starting at 1:00 pm. Inurnment of Harvie's cremated remains will take place at a later date.
