Hazel Naomi Strever, 81, of Topeka, Kansas passed away February 7, 2013. She was born to Floyd M. and Lois (Scott) Edwards on January 24, 1932, the second of six children, at Mystic, Iowa. She graduated from Mystic High School. She attended Midwestern School of Evangelism and worked for the University of Iowa.
She married Wesley R. Strever on August 12, 1952. She worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in Kearney, Nebraska. They adopted twin sons in August of 1964 and moved to the Topeka area in 1971. She was employed in Topeka as the secretary of Topeka Christian Academy until her sons graduated and then she worked for the US Postal Service and became the Postmaster of Paxico, Kansas. She founded the Bootleggers Dulcimer club and was an active member until her death. She was an active member of Southwest Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wesley; two sons, Craig W. and his wife, Olga of Topeka, and Gregory E. and his wife, Theresa, of Greensboro, NC; 5 grandchildren, Jaylene, Kaylene, Collene, Alexander, and Aaron; 2 brothers, Harold Edwards, Kimball, NE, Ralph Edwards, Scottsdale, AZ; 3 sisters, Mary Ann Mills, Fredonia, KS, Malacha Hall, Cañon City, CO, and Rachel Morrow, Silvis, IL.
A celebration of her life will be held at Southwest Christian Church, 5747 SW Huntoon on February 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. There will be an informal gathering at Coyote Canyon at 5:00 p.m. that same day.
