Helen L. Dodge, 94, of Topeka, passed to her eternal home on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Manor Care Nursing Home.
Born on August 16, 1920, Helen is the daughter of Christian and Clara (Wenger) Finger in Powhattan, Kansas. She was married to Dwight V. Dodge on November 1, 1941 in Toledo, OH and he preceded her in death on May 28th, 1996.
She and Dwight co-owned Dodge/Carroll Electronics in Topeka for many years and were blessed to share their lives with the thousands of customers that came through their doors, many of whom they called friends. The business also afforded them the opportunity to travel the globe, visiting exotic locations like Egypt, China and many countries across Europe.
Helen was known for her generosity and giving to those around her. Her specialties were her award winning bread, cinnamon rolls and her coveted sock monkeys. She loved to make them all, but what brought her the most joy was when others enjoyed her creations!
Survivors include daughter, Beverly (Robert) Radefeld and son, Dean (Sherry) Dodge; 6 grandchildren, Douglas Dodge, Dina Smith, Danny Dodge, Russell Radefeld, Amber Benda, and Lindsay Dodge; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and brothers, Ruben Finger and Edward Finger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Duane Dodge, grandson, Aaron Radefeld, brothers, Samuel, Christian, Ernest, and Bill Finger, and sister, Elizabeth Andres.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka; the family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka.
Helen was a blessing to those around her and loved to freely give, so in lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the charity of the donor's choice and encourages everyone to take the opportunity to "pay it forward" in memory of Helen.
