Helen L. Johnson, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on December 25, 1917 on her family farm near Tescott, KS, the daughter of Thomas and Hazel Woody Roy. Helen previously lived in Salina, KS for most of her married life before moving to Topeka in 1992. She was an active member of Victory Tabernacle Church in Topeka.
Helen married Charles A. Johnson on May 16, 1937 in Tescott at her family home. He preceded her in death in January of 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Marva (Robert) Tagg of Simi Valley, CA, Sharon (John) Hansen of Topeka, three grandchildren, John (Michell) Hansen II, Paul (Teri) Hansen, Cherri (Griff) Davies, five great-grandchildren, Paul II, Joanna, Andrew, Kara and Sarah, one great-great-granddaughter, Avery, and one sister, Jeanne Klippel of Carmel, IN.
Helen will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:30 p.m. (brief service at 7:30). She will then lie in state and the family will receive friends from Noon until 2:30 p.m. (brief service at 1:30) Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary in Salina. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Franklin Cemetery south of Tescott on Brookville Rd.
