7. Background: Mr. Elliott lived his early life in Reece, KS and graduated high school there. He held a BS
and MS Degrees from Emporia State University. He held teaching and administrative posts at Yates Center and
Eureka. He served 4 years in the US Army and was in the European Theatre of Operation. After WWII he
returned to Germany where he was involved with the development and administration of schools for children of
army personnel at Kaiserslauten. After returning to the US, he ended his active career by serving in various
capacities with the Kansas State Department of Education from which he retired in 1979. Mr. Elliott was a
member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He married Luise Thauer while administering schools for American Army children at Kaiserslauten. His wife is a
native of Kitzenten, Germany. They were married in 1954 and returned to Eureka where they made their home
until moving to Topeka in 1969.
