Henry G. Watson, 73, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017.
He was born October 28, 1943 in Quanah, TX, the son of Everett and Frances Watson.
Henry grew up in the Topeka area and attended Central Park and Wanamaker elementary schools and graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1961.
As a child he enjoyed making model cars and was very skilled at model making. When he reached driving age he transferred that skill into making hot rods.
Henry attended the University of Kansas and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Washburn University. He then attended the UMKC School of Dentistry, graduating in 1971.
In August of 1971 he entered the U.S. Army as a dentist at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indiana. While serving at Ft. Benjamin Harrison he participated in several experimental methods of providing dental care to service members and their dependents.
He returned to Topeka in 1975 to establish his dental practice. However, the lure of computers, in both soft and hardware, turned him from the dental practice. He spent a considerable amount of his working life assisting small businesses in the Midwest and California in converting their accounting practices from paper to computers. Henry and his mother returned to Topeka in the late 1990's where he became the primary caregiver to his mother until her passing.
Henry is survived by his sons, Kris and Everett Watson; brothers Linley (Janice) Watson, Leslie (Roni) Watson, Danny (Selena) Watson and a sister, Jennie (Dennis) Hetzer. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with his wishes, Henry was cremated. A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 6 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 S.W. Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66610. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 7 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 4700 S.W. 17th St., Topeka, KS 66604.
