Herbert A. Almlof

April 26, 1926 — June 2, 2015

Herbert Almond Almlof, Jr. 89, of Topeka passed away June 2, 2015 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born to Herbert Almond Almlof, Sr. and Alfreda (Johnson) Almlof on April 21, 1926 at Silves, Illinois. He married Patricia Calvert on January 17, 1951 at Torrance, California. Herbert served in the US Navy during WWII spending 17 months aboard the vessel, LST 854.

Herb and Pat made their home in Arizona where Herb was employed by Northern Arizona University. He retired from N.A.U. in 1988 as Maintenance Supervisor and in 1989, Herb and Pat moved to Kansas to enjoy retirement with their family. Herb had a passion for bowling and became a certified bowling coach for children, high schoolers, and adults at Gage Bowl. He also volunteered for various painting projects for the City of Topeka. Herb loved to play card games and dominoes, and was part of a group that played weekly for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always had a clever idea and a great sense of humor which will be greatly missed.

Herb is survived by his daughters, Janice Hudson (Dennis) of Topeka and Susan Begovac (Paul) of Flagstaff, AZ; grandchildren, Dustin Hudson (Sarah) of Kansas City, MO, Lynn Begovac of Phoenix, AZ, Jennifer Begovac of Winter Park, CO; and great-grandsons, Dylan and Dawson of Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat.

The family will hold a private service. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Hospice Care or Colmery O'Neil VA Medical Center, 2200 SW Gage Blvd. Topeka, KS 66622.
