Idamay Alida (True) Terry of Topeka, Kansas passed away on March 20, 2019. Ida was born to J. Fred and Vera May (Strong) True April 28, 1933, in Topeka, though the family lived on a farm in nearby Perry, Kansas.
She had a beautiful singing voice and was a lead in the Topeka High Operetta her senior year in high school. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1951.
She attended Kansas State University, but left college to begin an exciting career in advertising. After several years with AT&T and Bendix corporation as a commercial artist and copywriter before striking out on her own. Her company produced art and typesetting for advertising agencies, retail and manufacturing firms.
She was married to Clifford Terry and while living in Washington DC, she developed the Army Wives Seal.
After her divorce, Ida returned to Kansas City in 1977 and accepted a job as advertising manager for a large group travel organization. In 1983 she began a 5-year stint as the US representative for some of the industrial trade exhibitions in China.
In 1993, Ida became the state representative for Ross Perot's United We Stand America organization. Since the organization monitored state legislation, Ida moved to Topeka in 2000.
Ida is preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim True of Richardson, TX, and her step daughter Nancy Terry Trappe. She is survived by brother and sister-in-law Fred and Susan True of Kansas City, Missouri, sister and brother-in-law Ron and Vera True White of Lewisville, Texas, sister-in-law Helen True, Richardson, TX, step children Debra Terry Dacumos, Pomona, CA and Greg Terry, LaVerne, CA
Cremation is planned. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2019 at Topeka Cemetery.
