Ilda "Carlene" Allen

Ilda "Carlene" Allen, 83, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017.

She was born January 21, 1934, in Scandia, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Alberta (Etter) Veteto.

Carlene was a graduate of Courtland High School in Courtland, Kansas, and worked for Victory Life Insurance Company for 22 years as Vice President of Policy Ownerships. She was a member of First Congregational Church.

On June 12, 1953, in San Diego, California, she married Melvin D. Allen. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2009.

Survivors include children, Pamela (John) Herrmann of Topeka, LaDonna Allen of The Colony, Texas, Steven Allen of Topeka, and Teresa (Gary) Bliss of Topeka; grandchildren, Angela Rumbley, Michael (Judy) Rumbley, Shanie (Jason) Neal, Jenna Lucero, Jennifer Bliss, and Jacob Allen; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Harold Veteto.

Carlene and Melvin loved spending time with family and friends no matter the occasion. They also enjoyed the outdoors and sporting events including gardening, camping, boating, hunting, and traveling. Melvin and Carlene were avid Kansas City Royals fans and attended many games during the regular and preseasons. Her favorite player was Alex Gordon.

Cremation has taken place and private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society or First Congregational Church.
