Imogene Bisel, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Clare Bridge of Topeka. She was born on March 29, 1927 in Buffalo, Kansas to Irvin and Nell Herb. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1944. On June 5, 1977 she married Grant S. Bisel. Imogene was a stenographer in Chanute and for the Army Air Force in Wichita from 1944 to 1946. Later, in 1946 she moved to Topeka and began working for the Santa Fe Railroad, where she retired after 45 years of service. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Topeka.
Survivors include her husband Grant S. Bisel; step-children, Ken Bisel of Topeka; Ron Bisel of Lawrence; Barbara Chapman of Broken Arrow, OK; and Naomi Hoppes of Vestal, NY; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Imogene will lie in state on Friday, April 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
