Ira Maynard Winesett, Sr., 83, Topeka, died Sunday, Nov 11, 2007 at his home. He was born June 6, 1924 in Gilliam, West Virginia, the son of William Robert and Fannie B. Adams Winesett and graduated from Northfork, W VA High School. He lived in Gilliam for 26 years and had lived in Topeka since 1960. Mr. Winesett worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 24 years before retiring on June 6, 1984. He also worked for Sunflower Lanes Bowling Alley. He served in the US Navy during WW2 aboard USS Tripoli. He was a member of the former New Hope Baptist Church and currently a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He had been a Church Trustee, a Sunday School teacher and a Disciple Training Leader. He married Mary Virginia Simons on Dec. 15, 1947 in McDowell, W VA. She died April 19, 1986. Their son, Ira Maynard Winesett, Jr. was born Dec. 28, 1949. He died May 4, 2003. Survivors include a granddaughter, Virginia Winesett of Hastings, NE. Other survivors include Georgiann Reed and her family, Kelly Turner and husband, Tim of Dayton, TX, Kimberly Akins of Topeka, Kerry Alfrey and husband, Joe of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Toni and Cody Garefalos, Kristin Moore, Keith Forshee, Matthew Finch, Joey and Mason Alfrey; and a host of nieces and nephews. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1329 SW 37th St, 666611.
