Irene Elizabeth Morrison Phillips passed away December 27, 2008 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born March 4, 1926, in Marlinton, West Virginia, the daughter of Lucy May Van Reenen and Neff Simpson Morrison. She attended public schools in West Virginia and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, with a B.S. degree in Foods and Nutrition.
For many years, Mrs. Phillips was Director of the Test Kitchen for Seymour Foods, Inc. She retired from Colmery-O'Neil V.A. Medical Center in Dietetics. She had been President of the Topeka Home Economics Association and of the greater Kansas City Home Economists in Business, and had been on the Board of Directors of the International Food Editorial Council. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, First Baptist Church, and Active Prime Timers. She enjoyed bridge and travel.
A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Mrs. Phillips is survived by a daughter, Jananne Phillips, of Lewiston, Maine, who is married to Dennis Grafflin; by a sister, Janet Morrison, Columbus, Ohio; and by one grandchild, Calder Phillips-Grafflin.
A celebration of life for Mrs. Phillips will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31 at First Baptist Church, internment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka.
