Irma H. Johnson, 94, of Topeka, died on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Irma was born on August 3, 1920 in rural Shawnee County, the daughter of Duncan and Effie (Firestone) Henderson. She graduated from Dover High School and attended Kansas State University.
Irma was married to Luther O. Johnson on October 9, 1949 in Topeka; he preceded her in death on April 1, 2003.
Irma and Luther lived in the Eskridge community for 49 years and she worked in Topeka for the Santa Fe Railroad as a supervisor in the key punch department. She moved to Brewster Place in Topeka in May of 2004 and was heavily involved in many of their activities.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Mike) Douglas of Lawrence; grandsons, Walker Douglas of Lawrence and Cole Douglas of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister-in-law, Verta Weidner of Topeka as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Elizabeth Eddy and Rella Grant.
Irma will lie in state from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka.
