Ivan Bartlett DeWitt, 88, Topeka, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at Stormont-Vail Health Center.
He was born April 5, 1919 in Chapman, the son of John B. and Alice Young DeWitt. He came to Topeka in 1970 from Ogden.
Mr. DeWitt served in the US Army in the European Theatre during WW2. He worked as a plumber at Ft. Riley and was a foreman over plumbing and refrigeration at the time of his retirement. He was a member of Post #207, American Legion at Ogden.
He married Doris I. Foster on July 1, 1939 in Manhattan. She died Aug. 8, 1986. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia M. Kleeman in January, 1999.
Survivors include a son, Larry DeWitt of Topeka; a daughter, Brenda Webb of Topeka; a sister, Nona Jolley of Salina; seven grandchildren, including Mrs. Shirley Cole of Topeka and Bart "Cooter" Webb of Meriden, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mr. DeWitt will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm Friday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Private interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
