Ivan Devon Anderson passed away in his home in Topeka at the age of 92 on Monday, January 4, 2016. Ivan was born on June 23, 1923 in Beverly, KS to George and Zola Anderson. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1941, he served in the United States Navy as Quarter Master First Class from 1942 to 1946 in PT Boat services.
Ivan married Lue Kerns on June 27, 1948 in Lincoln, KS. They have three children; David (Nikki) Anderson of Topeka, Thomas (Susan) of Shawnee, KS, and Mary (Barry) Foster of Topeka. Ivan served as Scout Pack & Troop leader for both of his sons and was active in scouting for over twenty years.
Ivan began his career as a Blue Cross Blue Shield representative in western Kansas. He then served as administrative resident at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka KS. He was administrator at Newman Memorial in Emporia, KS, and Memorial Hospital, Topeka, KS. He also served as assistant director at BCBS, worked for Kansas Medical Information Services, and was an assistant professor in Health Care at KUMC. Before retiring, he worked as an associate administrator at Menninger Memorial Hospital in Topeka.
Ivan served on several boards including Kansas Foundation of Medical Care, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, and International Executive Service Corps. He was President of the Topeka West and Emporia Rotary Clubs and was elected a Paul Harris Fellow.
Ivan and Lue have been members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka since 1951. He served as an elder, Sunday School teacher, clerk of Session, choir member, and moderator of North Kansas Presbytery.
He was a graduate of the University of Kansas with a BSBA and earned a Masters of Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota. He was an avid Jayhawk fan throughout his entire adult life.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and one sister. Ivan is survived by his wife Lue, sister Bonnie (Jim) Packard of Salina, and brother Raymond (Rosemary) Anderson of Salina, and by their three children, eleven grandchildren, and twenty one great-grandchildren.
Ivan Anderson, a man of virtue and Christian faith, was loved and respected by all, and left a profound impact on all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Midland Care. After cremation, Ivan will be laid to rest in the Memorial Garden at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
