Ivan Raymond Frye, 84, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on February 16, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 30th, 1940 in Topeka to Naomi Anderson Frye and Ivan Raymond Frye, Ray spent his life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
In June of 1963, Ray married Carolyn Ann (Secord) Frye, and together they shared 60 years of love and companionship. Ray was a proud father to two children, Jeffrey Raymond Frye (Sandy) of Springfield, Missouri, and Topeka’s Elizabeth Ann Steffen (Joe). He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather, cherishing time spent with his grandchildren: Alex Steffen (Sydney) of Topeka, Emma Steffen of Holton, Olivia Frye, and Jin Frye of Springfield, Missouri. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kathy Oakley of Lopez Island, Washington, and Marilyn Heath of Austin, Texas.
Ray was hired by Henry Bubb in the early 1960’s and spent over 40 years working for Capitol Federal, where he formed lasting friendships and made a positive impact on his associates and community. His work ethic and dedication to his career were matched only by his love for his family.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ray was an avid fisherman, a passion he shared with his family - taking them on numerous camping trips to the Ozarks and around the United States. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, camping, woodworking, and tinkering with his Lionel model trains. Ray had a deep love for animals, often spending time with the pets of his children and grandchildren. Ray’s love for life extended to his role as a historian of all things Topeka, he was always eager to share stories from his past and the history of his beloved hometown with anyone who would listen. His hobbies brought him great joy, which fostered fun traditions and meaningful connections to his family and friends.
Ray was a man who lived with purpose, always offering his time, wisdom, and love to those who needed it most. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A private family service will be held in his honor. In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Stormont Vail Foundation at https://www.stormontvail.org/stormont-vail-foundation/make-a-gift/ or Midland Hospice at https://midlandcare.org/support-us/donate-online/ in Ray's memory.
Ray will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace.
