J. Jean Grecian, 90, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, April 27th in her apartment at Brewster Place in Topeka.
Jean was born in Kansas City on June 25, 1925, the daughter of Everett and Mildred Icenogle. She was active in the Wyandotte High School drama club, took private art lessons, painting beautifully in oils, was an award-winning horsewoman, and attended business college, leading to a position in the offices of Trans World Airlines.
She met William "Bill" Grecian, who predeceased her in 2009, on a blind date arranged by his cousin Richard Moore, and corresponded with Bill after he was shipped overseas during World War Two, marrying him on November 30, 1946, shortly after his return. They moved to Topeka, where they built their first house, and where he was office manager and, eventually, the owner of The River Sand Company, while Jean devoted her time to raising their four children.
She was a founding member of the Seabrook Coffee Club and studied and excelled in tailoring. Jean faced every crisis, every emergency, every trouble with calm, patience, and humor.
Jean is survived by her sons Philip and Larry(Nancy); and daughters Amy (Charlie) Gray and Beth (Dan) Kelly; as well as 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Brewster Place Chapel at 1:00 PM on May 25, 2016
