J. Richard Showalter II passed away July 27, 2010 at Midland Hospice House. He was born on Apr 21, 1947 in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania to John R. "Dick" Showalter and Betty Stark Showalter.
He graduated from Salisbury Elklick High School in Salisbury, PA in 1965. He received his Bachelor degree in psychology from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, NJ in 1988 and his Juris Doctorate from Washburn University in 1990.
Prior to his law career he worked in the insurance industry.He opened his law practice in Topeka in 1990. He was a member of the Kansas and American Bar Associations, the Topeka Arab Temple; Provst Guard, sec/treas; and the Meyersdale Lodge #554, Meyersdale, PA.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Dick Showalter.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Heiligenthal-Showalter of Topeka; mother, Betty S. Showalter; brother, Michael (Pat) Showalter; sister, Pam (Jim) Baer all of Salisbury, PA; brother, Brad (Molly) Showalter of Aubrey, TX; 2 nieces, Scottie Showalter Rice (Eugene), Jessica Showalter; 2 nephews, Jeremy Baer, Tim Showalter ( Amber); Katherine Stoll and Spenser, his beloved Schnauzer.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Governor's Row House, 811 SW Buchanan, Topeka, Kansas. Additional celebrations will occur in Cleveland, OH and Salisbury, PA.
